Hiking takes 6-7 hours of passing through different vegetation covers, meeting different park animals such as lions, buffaloes, mountain gorillas, okapis, hippos, warthogs, pelicans, and birds such as double-toothed barbet, Rwenzori turaco, Rwenzori, and stripe breasted tit. What is the best time to hike Nyiragongo?

During the dry months, the hiking trails are less slippery, the vegetation along the hiking trails is short giving clear views of the park animals, and the roads leading to the park are passable.
